Customer Reviews

Got mine today and couldn't wait to test it out. Filled with distilled water to about 1/2" under the "max fill" mark. Took around a minute for water to boil. I gotta admit, it's a little scary at first to be toting around this container of furiously boiling water.
Tried it first on an old cotton shirt that I had already stuffed into a corner of the closet, to wrinkle it on purpose. It took a while, and I got the shirt "relaxed" but not "smooth". Aside from a very occasional drop (which evaporated away on the next pass), I didn't have any issues with it spitting hot water.
Next test: a wool blazer, now that I wasn't concerned about spraying boiling water all over it. I used the lint brush attachment, and hey! This thing actually works! It helped to pull the garment taut while steaming. Watch those fingers... I think I saw somebody recommend an using an oven mitt in a review somehere? Not a bad idea. Anyway, this was a success, and pretty easy to do.
Third test: a linen blazer, using the brush attachment. Maybe chalk it up to practice, but it looked perfect in no time. Yay!
In summation: I'm still going to iron shirts that need it, but goodbye drycleaning. It half paid for itself in just a couple of uses. The power cord is nice and long. I don't like that there's no steam trigger, or even an on/off switch... once you plug it in, it's on and steaming. Plus, it leaves garments steam-damp, and you need to let them hang out for 30 minutes or so to dry completely. But overall, it works as promised and saves me money. I'm satisfied withn the purchase and would recommend it to a friend. Hope this helps.

Used this product on chiffon material. It was very easy and convenient to use and smoothed out the wrinkles very easily. It's compact size makes it easy to store. It heats up quickly and makes a lot of steam. I am pleased with my purchase.

Customer Reviews

I considered many of the alternatives before purchasing the B;S 30470, and I'm happy with my decision.
I was hoping to find a model that was not manufactured in China because there have been a lot of quality control problems with hardware (and food products) that come out of China and when you are purchasing a 200 pound product, you really don't want to take a chance on having something go wrong that will require you to bring it/ship it somewhere because of a problem. Unfortunately, it seems that virtually all of the generators in this price range are manufactured in China, including this one. B;S is a US company, but as others have noted in nearby reviews: much of their manufacturing is in China. But since they are a US company and they do have a brand name to protect, that was slightly reassuring. Also, if something ever does go wrong with it, there are plenty of small engine shops around that should be able to work on it.
The Honeywell models also seemed interesting, but I got cold feet when I found where one person had published a lot of false information about them on Amazon, Home Depot, and one or two other web sites. Investigating further, I found that they are made by a small company in the Midwest that licenses the Honeywell brand name and, like B;S, does their manufacturing in China.
It's loud, but quieter than I expected. For a neighborhood where the houses tend to be at least 50 yards apart, this is not an intolerable noise level in my judgment. It seems to be no louder, and might actually be quieter, then the generators that my neighbors run. If you are really worried about noise, spend an extra $3000 and purchase a Honda inverter generator.
It starts right up and smooths out pretty quickly. It hardly skips a beat when you throw a load on it.
A nice touch is the recessed well around the gas tank filler spout - any spills will tend to stay right near the filler neck and can easily be wiped up.
Some things could be better:
1) The ignition switch and key are so cheesy that I decided it would be smartest to leave the key in the switch permanently. This is my biggest complaint and Briggs and Stratton need to do better.
2) It's good that it comes with a low-oil cutoff system, but the manual indicates that the only way you know if that system is working is if it won't run. Since a lot of other things might cause it to not run, it would be nice if there was an indicator of some sort telling you that the low-oil protection system had disabled it.
3) Since I'm using this to power my service entrance panel (I have an interlock in the panel that prevents backfeeding), and since the neutral and ground are bonded in the panel, I need to modify the generator to have a "floating neutral", instead of the "bonded neutral" that it came with. The majority of portable generators have this same issue: very few are shipped with a floating neutral. That's fine if you want to use it standalone to run extension cords, power tools, etc, but it's wrong for powering a house when there's a service interruption. All of the manufacturers need to do a better job of documenting this requirement and making the configuration change easy to accomplish. Briggs and Stratton doesn't even talk about it in the manual, but they did respond when I e-mailed them and they did assure me that this modification would not void the warranty.
4) It would be really nice to have a gauge that showed me what my current load is, or at least what my peak load has been. I calculated that this model would be big enough to run the refrigerator, the well pump, the furnace, and a few other things, but it would be reassuring to have a gauge tell me that I am/am not approaching the maximum load that this model was rated for.
I had contemplated that I would manage concerns about stale gas by adding fuel stabilizer to the gas and also by shutting off the fuel valve and then letting it burn up the gas that remained in the carburetor, but the fuel valve trick is not a good idea. In order to produce the correct 60 Hz electrical frequency, the engine needs to run at constant speed. If you start to starve the engine for fuel, it spends a couple of minutes revving up and down as the fuel mixture becomes leaner and leaner, before it finally uses up everything in the float bowl. I concluded that it was better to just shut it off with the key, leave fuel in the carburetor, and go with the fuel stabilizer.
My garage doesn't really have room to store a generator, and even if it did: I don't like the idea of dragging this out into the driveway or over a snow bank when I need to use it. I wound up building a small shed to store it in. I designed it so that the roof tips up and all four sides can come off when I want to run it. That allows for plenty of ventilation and cooling, but provides a stable place, out of the way, to store it. And since the roof tips up but stays on the shed, it has some amount of protection from rain and snow that it wouldn't have if I was just wheeling it out into the driveway.
So far, I've only used it a couple of times but I've been very happy with it and it seems to provide ample power to run the things I need the most when the power goes out: submersible pump, oil furnace, refrigerator, a few lights and etc.

I purchased this generator after researching for quite awhile. The reviews on all websites were overwhelmingly positive, and I have always been well pleased with Briggs and Stratton products. However, after receiving this shipment I found that the choke was broken off the carburetor, two rear engine mount bolts were sheared off at the heads, and the negative battery terminal had one end broken off. None off these pieces were located anywhere near each other that would suggest damage from being dropped. I inspected the box as I received it and there was absolutely no damage to the container. So this generator must have left the factory in this condition.
After fixing the battery cable, the engine mount bolts, rigging the choke, and completing all necessary preparation procedures - I stared the generator up by electric start and immediately heard a loud screeching from the manual pull rewind. I shut it down and found that the rewind was broken off at the head on the inside. I then left the head off and started the generator. It ran fine and smooth. I hooked up a well pump to it since this draws a tremendous amount off surge watts, and it handled it with no problem. Overall, I like this product, but am very wary of buying another B;G product. In my opinion, this kind of quality control is unacceptable. I wonder if it is now going to be their policy of displaying shoddy workmanship.

Customer Reviews

I've used these with friends camping and been absolutely amazed. This model has a number of positives about it. Yamaha has produced small, reliable generators for over 15 years.
My big plusses:
1 - REALLY quiet. The engine drives basically just an alternator and produces about 12V, though it varries. When there is a small load on the generator (typical of most camping / outdoor uses) it slows down the engine. This not only makes it quiet, it cuts back on fumes, and saves gas. A tank filling can last half a day easily depending on demand.
2 - clean power. Because the alternator is outputting a DC voltage into a sinewave inverter your 110 VAC is comming from one of the best sources. I use inverters in many of my service vehicles, right at 1000W, and have found no situation where that was not enough power. Since the inverter tells the throttle how much power it needs, wasted noise and gas are eliminated. Basically it does not feel like the old 5000W genset on wheels.
3 - light weight. Compared to taking the 5000W generator camping, the small size and light weight are a welcome change.
4 - very small gasoline consumption. Unless you are running the full 1000W all the time you'll get great mileage. If you do need to run 1000W all the time, consider a larger digital inverter genset. Honda makes a 2000W which can be joined to a second 2000W for 4000 total if I recall.
5 - well built engine. Although only 50cc, it has overhead valves and excellent sound isolation.
Cons:
It's not going to run EVERYTHING in your RV at the same time. If you are watching the plasma TV (400W) and turn on the microwave (1000W) the generator will shut down due to the 1400W load. Consider your loads and if you must run everything simultaneously.
Heavy loads make it spin faster and thus change the acoustic tone of the exhaust. If it's within hearing range and you turn alot of stuff on/off the noise may irritate some people.
Pros:
Put a 100 foot extension cord between you and the generator and you'll be saying "what generator" as the lights and appliances work fine for 12+ hours. It's that quiet.
1000W is enough to run your vehicle's battery charger, a good size TV, and small cooking appliances, just not at the same time. Consider the kill-a-watt wattmeter to know EXACTLY what your load is P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Electricity Usage Monitor

I wanted a smaller generator than the one built into my RV to save on gas and operate quieter. this little yamaha did the trick. I use a 50 foot extension cord and run it to my rv through the window. It can power my computer, battery chargers, and small appliances on its quiet, low power setting. I barely hear when it is running on low power if it is 50 feet from the RV. Uses only 1/2 gallon of gas if i run it all day. but you do need to go to a local Yamaha dealer and get the proper oil. make sure you read the instructions for this or you will burn out the motor.

Honeywell 2000-6066 2,000 Watt 126cc 4-Stroke OHV Portable Gas Powered Inverter Generator

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Compact in design, the Honeywell 2000-6066 gas-powered portable inverter generator is designed for life on the road. Its durable, lightweight design with built-in handle offers portable power for camping, tailgating, and recreational use. The 2000-6066 features inverter technology that reduces the size, weight, and noise of the generator and allows for the engine to run at varying speeds, significantly reducing the noise and fuel consumption levels. And its special electronic microprocessor can also provide safe, stable power for sensitive electronic devices such as computers.

The 2000-6066 provides a reliable 2,000-watt power supply wherever you need it and a maximum power output of 2,250 watts, and yet it's 40 percent lighter than a standard generator of equal wattage output. It features Honeywell's exclusive EcoMode feature, which saves fuel and reduces noise after startup by adjusting engine speed to meet demand. If the power needs are low, the engine will run more slowly, resulting in a quieter and more fuel-efficient unit.
Note for California residents: This model is not CARB-compliant. Units sold to California must be CARB-compliant.
The case is fully enclosed for quiet operation--making it campground friendly--and its integrated handle makes it easy to move from car to camp site. It's equipped with a 4-stroke, 126-cc OHV (overhead valve) engine, which features a low-oil shutdown system to prevent engine damage and keep the generator in good shape for long-term use.
This generator's 1-gallon fuel tank will give you up to 4.7 hours of operation at a 50-percent load. Other features include splash lubrication, 12-volt battery charging capability, and electronic overload protection. It's backed by a 2-year residential warranty, and a 6-month warranty when used for commercial purposes.
Inverter Wattage Needs
When choosing a portable generator, it's important to identify the starting watts of all the devices you might power at the same time. Some devices draw additional power as they get up and running. If this additional wattage is not accounted for, system overload can result. To determine your requirements for a portable generator, see this wattage chart sample.
How Inverter Technology Works
Inverter generators utilize a different type of alternator than standard generators to generate AC power. The raw power produced is converted from DC to AC power by a computer-controlled inverter module. The engine speed varies depending on the electrical demand, which significantly reduces noise and fuel consumption compared to a standard portable generator. The end result is a portable generator with reduced weight and size, and power that is ultra-clean and capable of safely powering sensitive electronics.

We were recently hit by Hurricane Irene. The generator worked great! I was able to power up my Refrigerator, 50" TV, Dish, charge 2 cellphones and a Fan for at least 5 hrs on one Gallon. Generator is relatively quiet, even more on Eco mode. My neighbor was stunned by the size of the generator and that it didn't make that much of a noise compared to his generator.. At night, I would plug 2 fans, CPAP machine, charge my 2 phones and on echo mode, it lasted for 8 hrs. I'm very please with the work it has done, even more so now that we are in the peak of the Hurrican season.

I got this for work in a remote location with no power. We have a little station that needs heat so we purchased this to get us by in the winter. I must say when I first started this I thought it was pretty loud till I adjusted a few things. I was running my heater at to high of a setting(1500 watts) and this thing was kicking in really high. Turned the heater down a notch in wattage and it just hums along. I use a modified doghouse to store this in and it hasn't failed us yet. I would recommend this if you can't afford a Honda which of course is really expensive but much quieter. Time will tell on the durability of this thing.

I ordered this item recently through Amazon and am very pleased. I was leaning towards a more costly generator but finally settled on this model. The instructions for start up where easily understood and I had the unit operational in a matter of minutes.
The unit runs quiet compared to other constant speed generators. I plugged my RV into the 30 amp outlet for rv applications and was able to use the AC and other electrical appliances with no problems at all.
I am very happy I went this direction and not the more expensive choices.

bought this generator to fit the need of dry camping. it starts with ease and provides alot of power to supply my travel trailer. it is really nice that it has a built in rv hook-up. great machine and its not to loud. for the price cant beat it.

First day with the generator, so I'll post some updates as I put it to the test of supplying our home with emergency power when we get our inevitable winter disruptions. Ok, so you know, I've been around all kinds of power equipment for more years than most of you have been alive, and am intimately familiar with most of it. After reading a gazillion reviews on generators, I bought this one because it gets raves from just about everybody. I did some research on the company, and they seem to be operating with uncommon integrity.
So I unpacked the generator, sat down and read the manual (I always do that), topped up the oil, added a gallon of fresh fuel, turned on the ignition, gas valve and the choke. Then I was going to pull the engine through once or twice gently before the real pull that would start it, but hey, it started half way through the first pull! After half a minute, I turned off the choke and the engine ran smoothly.
There are lots of opinions on the noise level. I started it in my shop, where I have run many other small engines, and this one qualifies as one of the quietest. WAY quieter than the Honda-powered pressure washer I had just been servicing. Actually, there is more (normal) engine/mechanical noise than exhaust noise, so once outside where it's supposed to be anyway, it will be a lot quieter without hard walls to echo the noise.
After about five minutes of running, I plugged in a few tools, among them a 1500W heat gun. The engine sound difference was barely discernible and the voltage stayed right on.
I talked to a tech guy on these generators and he said the one biggest issue people have with them is they leave old fuel in the tank when the machine is in storage for months on end. Adding a fuel stabilizer intended to keep our new alcohol-laced gasoline stable is key. I'm going to run it for 5 hours and then change the oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic. I use this oil in all my small engines (and in my vehicles and even in my Harley) and I have no engine problems.
BTW, I got this idea from another reviewer but it bears reposting: To open the box, I cut all around the bottom about a half-inch off the floor. Then I just lifted off the whole box that is now my storage cover. Neat.
I'll post an update after some good running hours, but so far, this little generator is A-1.

I bought this genny for Burning Man 2011. We will be using it to charge Batteries and run Air Conditioning on super hot days! I just set up the genny, some easy assembly and we were ready to fire it up! Choked, it sounded like I was beating a Tin Can! 100 or so db (db = decibel, a measurement to sound)! Turned off the choke and it's likely at 80+ db which is a far cry from the 68 db advertised. I'm breaking it in for 10 hours or so before heading out there. It has been running solid for 4 hours and seems very solid so far. If it wasin't for the noise I would give it 5 stars so far. I made a YouTube of the set up and starting process[...]

Purchased the Briggs ; Stratton generator before a pending hurricane. Assembled it quickly and ran non-stop for 43 hours straight! Was able to run three refrigerators, one freezer, sump pump, TV, and several lights with no problem. My fuel consumption was 2.5 gallons every 9 hours, better than advertised. The metal tank is a great touch, proven engine, and great warranty.

I bought this generator during hurricane Irene to power a refrigerator and a few other appliances in the house. This generator was very easy to setup and there is nothing `cheap' or flimsy about it, even the wheels look like they were meant to last. For the same watts, it looks like this one weighs 20+ pounds more than a similarly sized `no name / house brand' generator. I'm not sure that necessarily makes it better (or worse), but I like the fact that the engine is a brand serviceable by many local dealers. Yes, it is loud like the others have mentioned, but I don't know how it compares to other similarly sized generators.
